Founder of Events Beyond, LLC, Courtney Kern has had a passion for all things beautiful from a young age. Born in Upstate New York, Courtney began dancing at age 4. Courtney attended elite programs at Albany Dance Institute, Orlando’s School of Dance, NY, and Ballet Region, NY. She also trained at Saratoga’s Ballet Region, Hartford Ballet, North Carolina School of the Arts, Virginia School of the Arts, Alvin Ailey, Steps, Broadway Dance Center, and Harkness Ballet. Attending these elite programs, Courtney met aspiring dancers and artists from around the world.
Courtney trained and performed in productions, and had the opportunity to view the frenzy behind the scene. Courtney was always intrigued that however hectic and disorganized, the production appeared seamless and flawless from the audience’s perspective. Courtney uses her stage experience in her event planning, paying attention to every detail.
While completing her dance training, Courtney found another passion in event planning. Crooked Lake House was an elegant and sophisticated restaurant that hosted some of Upstate New York’s finest weddings and events. A summer position at the Crooked Lake House—one of the top facilities in Upstate New York—led to a promotion to assistant event coordinator. Courtney spent five years learning hands-on the numerous aspects of event planning, from the kitchen to the client.
In 1999 Courtney relished the opportunity to move to New York City on a dance scholarship. She continued dancing and finished high school at Talent Unlimited. After graduating she worked at Ballet Academy East on Manhattans Upper East Side. She taught ballet, tap, the summer dance program, and served in an administrative capacity. Courtney enjoyed working with young children, giving them the chance to experience dance and the arts the way she had. She also had the pleasure of gaining experience with celebrity clientele and control of a large budget and resources.
To further her goal to start her own event planning business, Courtney pursued higher education in New York City (graduating with a Business Management degree with a specialization in marketing). Working independently on birthday parties and other events for the past few years, Courtney has been able to use her connections to build a base for Events Beyond.
In addition to founding Events Beyond, Courtney is employed at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. She enjoys making connections and cultivating relationships with the many talented individuals and businesses within the event community.
